GULF HARBOUR COUNTRY CLUB

Introduction To The Course by Robert Trent Jones, Jr, Golf Course Designer Spectacular finishing holes, ocean views, rolling terrain and classic, traditional values. All combine to make the Gulf Harbour Country Club one of the most exciting new developments in New Zealand. This 6,400 metre, par 72 golf course is located at Gulf Harbour on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, just north of Auckland. It meanders through native grasses and vegetation and has a natural look and feel from start to finish. Four sets of tees assure playability for every calibre of golfer, from beginners to professionals. Like all great courses, Gulf Harbour tantalises players with a variety of exciting holes. Several feature risk and reward opportunities, and none are tricked-up or artificial. The front nine is slightly hillier and has an open feeling, while the back nine wanders towards the ocean and culminates with some of the most scenic holes anywhere. Comparisons have already been made to Pebble Beach Golf Links. One of the most interesting holes on the course is the 300 metre par 4 seventh. This short dogleg is flanked by a lake on the right and tempts long hitters to go for the green. Those who get too greedy will pay the price on this intriguing little hole, sure to become one of the most talked about on the course. The four finishing holes will increase the heartbeat of every golfer. The 160 metre 15th is a par 3 toward the ocean, with the water as a backdrop. The 405metre 16th is a classic par 4 bordering cliffs. The second shot flirts with the rock cliffs and requires nerve as well as talent. The par 5 17th stretches 505 metres along the ocean, and the gorgeous views can be distracting to the eye. The final hole is a 390 metre par 4 which turns inland toward the clubhouse. Architects rarely get the opportunity to work with such magnificent topography anymore, which makes Gulf Harbour special. Its beauty, challenge and enjoyment are sure to attract international acclaim. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Golf Course Designer

TITIRANGI GOLF CLUB
Designed by Dr Alistair McKenzie

  • New Zealand's only Alister MacKenzie designed course.
  • The MacKenzie touch has created a golf course offering interest, variety, and the subtle cunning of one of the Great Masters of golf course design.
  • Always a pleasure to play, always a challenge, set amongst beautiful surroundings of Native bush and trees.
  • Titirangi - "The Fringe of Heaven"

THE COURSE

Conceived in 1914, Titirangi was privileged in 1926 to obtain the services of Dr. Alister MacKenzie (1870-1934) to redesign the course. Dr MacKenzie, designer of Augusta National, Royal Melbourne, Cypress Point and many outstanding courses liked what he saw. The ground was "exceptionally well adapted for golf, undulating, without being hilly".

Today the course is consistently rated in New Zealand's top five courses.

At 6050 metres off the championship tees and a par of 70, Titirangi has won a reputation as "one of the longest short courses". The club course measures 5653 metres and the women's course is a par 72 at 5113 metres....

    FORMOSA COUNTRY CLUB

WORLD CLASS GOLF Designed by internationally renowned golfing professional, Bob Charles, the course features 18 holes of sensational golf. Demanding enough for the skilled golfer, yet suitable for the relaxed, friendly, or corporate challenge and may be played year round. The longest course in New Zealand is over 6650 metres (over 7300 yards) off the pro tees. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Hauraki Gulf vistas, the course features the first Windsor green couch grass fairways in this country, as well as the first Egmont grass greens, providing a durable and attractive driving surface. Fifteen of the eighteen holes provide delightful water views and at over 190 hectares, the Formosa Auckland Country Club is established on an area twice that of a usual golf course. Rangitoto Island, the guardian of the Hauraki Gulf and Waitemata Harbour, forms part of the superb scenic backdrop that characterises the Formosa Auckland Country Club. First to New Zealand is the unique use of four different palms scattered perfectly throughout the course, lending a magical, tropical touch to an already glorious marine vista.

    MURIWAI LINKS GOLF COURSE

Muriwai draws its inspiration from the ancient coastal course of Scotland. With naturally rolling fairways and breathtaking views of sea and forests from every hole, this is an all weather course to charm and inspire even the most seasoned golfer. To play at Muriwai is to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Muriwai Golf Club was first established 40 years ago by course designer Harold Babbage. Present redevelopment of the course is being undertaken to maintain the high profile and playing conditions, and to bring it up to latest international criteria. Essentially Muriwai will continue to guarantee all-weather playing conditions, and take advantage of the sand-dune contours of the local environment. Thanks to a generous allotment of land surrounding the course, play is not affected by the redevelopment on any of the 18 holes at any time. Muriwai Golf Club is a links course situated in a protected bird sanctuary. There are no encroaching buildings, no traffic sounds or large crowds. The only sounds you hear are the calls of native birds and the surf breaking on the beach
